The Thoracic Oncology Program is a world leader in clinical outreach, each year hosting symposia featuring the world's leading physicians, scientists and thought leaders. The Annual UCSF/UCD Thoracic Oncology Conference, co-chaired by David M. Jablons, M.D. and David R. Gandara, M.D. of UC Davis, is held annually in November. Inaugurated in 1999, it is the first and oldest conference of its kind. The Thoracic Oncology Program also co-hosts the annual UCSF Clinical Cancer Update, a conference held each winter at Squaw Valley near Lake Tahoe.
13th World Conference on Lung Cancer
UCSF and UC Davis were selected by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) to host the World Conference on Lung Cancer in 2009. This reflects the status of the Thoracic Oncology Program as a leader in clinical outreach.
The thoracic oncology program now hosts three major symposia
featuring some of the world's foremost experts in lung cancer.
Clinicians from all major specialties in the multidisciplinary
model present the latest data from their respective
disciplines.
The Annual UCSF/UCD Thoracic Oncology Conference, inaugurated in
1999, is the first and oldest thoracic oncology program of its
kind. Co-chaired by Dr. Jablons, this regional event is targeted
primarily at oncologists, surgeons, and allied health
professionals. Attendance has steadily increased and the program
has regularly garnered excellent reviews since its inception.
In 2002, we presented the first Annual UCSF Clinical Cancer Update, a winter conference at Squaw Valley near Lake Tahoe. Designed for busy community clinicians and allied health professionals, the symposium reviews recent advances in cancer treatment. In response to participant feedback, the conference scope was broadened and now includes sessions on breast, colorectal, genitourinary and lung cancers as well as melanoma. There is also a translational science session with research updates for each area. Attendance has met expectations and reviews have been excellent.
International Collaboration
The International Lung Pan Pacific Cancer Conference, inaugurated in 2002, is a biannual event designed to enhance collaboration among leading lung cancer researchers and clinicians from North America, Europe and Asia. The conference has now won endorsements from the key international lung cancer organizations.
