Barbara Hamilton, MD, MAS Awarded UCSF COVID-19 Related Rapid Research Pilot Initiative Grant

Barbara C. S. Hamilton, M.D., M.A.S., a cardiothoracic surgery fellow at UCSF, has been awarded a UCSF COVID-19 Related Rapid Research Pilot Initiative grant for her project titled “Safe reinstitution of elective surgeries with universal testing at UCSF during the COVID-19 pandemic”. The project has been chosen for funding by the UCSF Chancellor's COVID Gift Fund within the Initiative Collective in the overall amount of $5,000 for a one-year project period.

Dr. Hamilton is mentored in her research activities by Dr. Johannes Kratz, Associate Program Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program, and colorectal surgeon-scientist Dr. Elizabeth Wick.  

The UCSF COVID-19 Related Rapid Research Pilot Initiative is sponsored by multiple intramural funding sources including: the Research Development Office (RDO), the Academic Senate, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) Pilot Program, UC National Laboratory Fees Research Program (LFRP) UCOP Block Grant, and the UCSF-Gladstone Center for AIDS Research(CFAR). Collectively, these sources are supporting research at UCSF focused on SARS-CoV-2 and the COVID-19 pandemic.
